Three Held in Attack on Policeman’s Family

Kompong Cham province police are holding three suspects in connection with a house robbery Thursday night that left two women and two children dead, police said.

Police arrested five suspects Saturday and confiscated two assault rifles that had been hidden in a haystack, said Seng Sokim, deputy chief of judicial police in Kompong Cham. Two of the suspects were later released, but police are holding the other three while they try to match the weapons with the victims.

The attack oc­curred in Thnong village, Muong Reav commune, Thboung Khmom district Thurs­day night. At least 10 people armed with seven assault rifles and several grenades entered the house of a local policeman’s relatives and robbed them, Seng Sokim said.

During the robbery, the policeman, Choan Khoeun, peered through the window and startled the robbers, who opened fire. Choan Khoeun es­caped un­harmed, but one robber threw a grenade into the house, killing all four people inside. One suspect was killed in shootout with police.
