Three Are Gang Raped in Kompong Chhnang

A 24-year-old woman and two 14-year-old girls were gang raped by seven men just before 1 am on May 15 in Kompong Chhnang province, police said Wednesday.

The three women were walking home with two men from a religious ceremony in their village in Ta Cheas commune, Kompong Tralach district, when seven men from the commune attacked the group, said Chhim Bunthoeun, the province’s penal police chief.

Some of the seven attackers beat the two men and chased them away, he said. The remaining attackers split the women up and raped them. Members of the group who had chased away the men also returned to rape the women, Chhim Bunthoeun said.

The woman was raped four times and the two girls were each raped once, he said.

“We arrested one offender, Tep Teng, 20, the night of the attack after we received reports from the victims’ families,” Chhim Bunthoeun said.

Tep Teng, a farmer, was detained by the court and is now in Kompong Chhnang provincial prison awaiting trial.

The other six escaped and are still at large, Chhim Bunthoeun said. But, he added, police know who they are.

Ek Chheng Huot, deputy prosecutor for Kompong Chhnang province, said Wednesday that he had issued warrants for the men.

“This is the biggest rape case in Kompong Chhnang province,” said Ek Chheng Huot. “The gang that raped the three women were not afraid of the law.”
