Three robbery suspects were gunned down by police near Olympic Stadium early Wednesday, just a day after municipal officials made plans to crack down on the city’s crime problem.
Police said the three men, between the ages of 20 and 30, shot first while trying to flee on a motorbike at about 3:30 am. Police returned fire, killing them.
A grenade and a shotgun were confiscated, said Prach Nhar, chief of the police’s criminal and autopsy department.
On Tuesday, Chea Sophara, the city’s deputy governor, announced plans to target for arrest an estimated 1,000 robbery suspects before mid-April.
