Thailand, Cambodia clash over martial art’s name

Thailand and Cambodia are in a fight over a traditional martial art, outside the ring. They disagree on what the sport should be called at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh in May.

The martial art is better known internationally by its Thai name, Muay Thai, which was used in past events. But the Games’ Cambodian organizers want to use their name for the sport, Kun Khmer.

Cambodia said the sport originated in its culture, and the new name better reflects this legacy.
