More than 80 athletes will square off on the tennis courts of the International Youth Club and Olympic Stadium this week, as part of the Tep Khunnah Memorial Cup.
The tournament, which began Sunday and will run until Dec 26, is sponsored by the Tennis Federation of Cambodia, Caltex, Indochine Insurance, Cambrew, Pine Spring, the IYC, and others.
Tep Rithivit, secretary general of the event’s executive committee, founded the tournament to commemorate his father four years ago. He is hoping it will be seen as a “major” tournament in a few years.
“Cambodian tennis has a long way to go before catching up with its neighbor[s], but we believe that this kind of event will definitely help tennis,” he said.
