A 17-year-old student was stabbed to death by a classmate Monday at a high school in Kompong Chhnang province, police said Tuesday.
Thou Soukanha was walking in the grounds of Preah Bat Soramarit High School in Kompong Chhnang commune on Monday morning when he shook his head and drops of sweat from his hair landed on Yem Phearum, 19, who became enraged, said Khay Khemroth, provincial deputy police chief.
After school finished, Mr. Phearum sought out Thou Soukanha in the school parking lot and stabbed him with a knife.
“[Mr. Phearum] said he had no intention of killing him when he stabbed him. He said he was just so angry because when the two were fighting [Thou Soukanha] hit him two times,” Mr. Khemroth said, adding that Mr. Phearum was arrested immediately.
Mr. Khemroth said Thou Soukanha was first sent to a hospital in Kompong Chhnang and then on to Phnom Penh, where he died from his injuries.
“All teenagers are not educated enough and are hot tempered. They don’t care about their life or about anybody else’s life,” Mr. Khemroth said.
Mr. Phearum will be sent to court today.
In an unrelated case, an intoxicated 48-year-old man was stabbed to death by his friend during a card game Monday in Takeo province, police said.
Toan Poal was playing poker at a neighbor’s house with seven of his friends when one of them, Roeun Chruok, 22, accused him of cheating, said Pich Vanna, deputy district police chief. Mr. Chruok then stabbed Toan Poal once in the stomach and once in the chest with a carpenter’s chisel.
“The victim was already drunk before he went to play cards. He was the dealer for his neighbor, and always got into arguments when he was drunk,” Mr. Vanna said, adding that Mr. Chruok had fled after committing the murder and remains at large.
