The Kompong Cham Provincial Court on Friday charged a 15-year-old boy with sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl in the province’s Prey Chhor district, police said.
Suon Ros, Prey Chhor district deputy police chief, said the teenager was arrested after sexually assaulting the 6-year-old girl at about 1 p.m. on Wednesday in a cassava plantation after her parents and grandmother had left her alone in their house.
“The suspect brought the victim with him on a bicycle to a cassava plantation, which was about 750 meters from the village,” he said.
“Immediately after we received a complaint from the victim’s grandmother [on Thursday] we set out to arrest the suspect,” Mr. Ros said, adding that the young victim was taken to the provincial referral hospital for treatment.
The suspect admitted to the attack following his arrest, he added.
In a separate case, the Kandal Provincial Court on Thursday charged a 32-year-old man with raping his 7-year-old stepdaughter, police said.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district after he fled his home in Kandal Stung district when his wife filed a complaint with police, Men Charith, district police chief, said Thursday.
“The Kandal Provincial Court charged the suspect with aggravated rape and he is currently being held at the provincial prison,” said Soeurn Rithy, deputy chief of the provincial serious crimes bureau.
