A man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl in Tbong Khmum province. Rin Samkhan, 18, was arrested at about 9 a.m. at his home in Memot district’s Choam commune, according to Memot district penal police officer Chan Doul.
Mr. Doul said the victim’s grandmother was the one who raised the alarm.
“The grandmother of the girl suspected something when she saw the girl leave the suspect’s house crying on June 18,” he said.
The victim was sent to a children’s hospital in Kompong Cham province, where it was discovered that she had bruises on her genitals.
Mr. Samkhan claims he did not rape the girl, but has admitted to rubbing a rambutan fruit on her genitals. The victim and suspect were next-door neighbors, according to Mr. Doul.
“The suspect thought he would take a chance while he was home alone and the girl’s grandmother was taking a nap,” he said. Provincial police chief Mao Pov added, “The act is unforgivable and the suspect has to face heavy punishment.”
