A 25-year-old primary school teacher was found dead with her throat slit open in a farmhouse on a rubber plantation in Tbong Khmum province on Saturday, with authorities identifying her boyfriend as the suspect.
Memot district military police chief Chan Doul said the murder of Ul Sokna took place at about 6 p.m. on Friday after a dispute inside the house she shared with Kun Makara, 29, but that her body was not found until around 8:45 p.m. the following night.
The victim’s mother had gone to her home inside the plantation on Saturday night after her daughter did not visit her house that afternoon to exchange her 2010 Honda Dream motorbike for an older motorbike—as she did every afternoon, Mr. Doul said.
“She came to the house and saw the victim’s dead body in the house with a machete nearby, while the husband had disappeared,” the military police chief said. “She had the left side of her throat slit.”
Mr. Doul said the couple had only met a few months ago but were already living together. He added that police were now searching for Mr. Makara, who was last seen driving his motorbike at a local market at about 7 p.m. on the night of the murder.
In a separate case, a woman in Phnom Penh’s Pur Senchey district was shot to death by her husband in their house at about 8 p.m. after another suspected domestic dispute, according to Kantork commune police chief Aen Teng. The husband turned the gun on himself after killing his wife, he said.
“The shooting took place in the bathroom of their house,” Mr. Teng said, identifying forestry official Ly Eangsao, 50, as the shooter.
The man and his wife, 35-year-old Prak Sopheaktra, who operated a Wing money-transfer outlet, had two daughters aged 13 and 8, he said, adding that he did not know why the couple had been fighting.
District police chief Yim Sarann said both were shot in the head, with police now investigating the case further. “The wife was shot in her lower right eye, and the husband was shot in the head,” Mr. Sarann said.
