Tbong Khmum Traffic Accident Claims Three Lives

Three people died and six others were injured in Tbong Khmum province on Saturday when a van overloaded with wood rear-ended a motorbike and rolled over, crashing into a second motorbike, a police official said Sunday.

Provincial traffic police chief So Sarath said the van had been transporting lengths of wood that were to be fashioned into stakes for a pepper farm when it rear-ended a motorbike on National Road 7 in Memot district, killing the driver, Nak Pa, 30, and his son, Nak Vanna, 3, and injuring his wife, Pon Khchel.

He said the van then rolled over and hit another motorbike in the oncoming lane, injuring the driver and two passengers.

In the rollover, he added, the van’s driver, Long Veth, 30, was slightly injured, while his wife, Chun Vatey, 24, died, and his employee was severely injured.

“The accident happened because the van was overloaded and speeding,” Mr. Sarath said, adding that Mr. Veth had been taken into custody and would be sent to the Tbong Khmum Provincial Court on Monday.
