Chea Saran, the RCAF general staff chief of operations, said the feared commander is on a perch known as Mountain 445, 40 km west of Anlong Veng.
Chea Saran said the brutal Khmer Rouge commander has an estimated 100 loyal fighters remaining. Analysts, however, have said that there could be more than 1,000 guerrillas left.
“Now the government soldiers are trying pursue them,” Chea Saran said. “If there is good cooperation between Thai authorities, defectors and government soldiers, Ta Mok may be arrested.”
