Svay Rieng Woman Guilty Of Murdering Husband

The Svay Rieng Provincial Court on Tuesday convicted a 22-year-old woman of murdering her husband last year, Judge Khy Chhai said Wednesday.

Kou Chandany was sentenced to 30 years in jail for the crime and ordered to pay 40 million riel (around $10,000) to her husband’s family, according to Judge Chhai.

The victim, Sien Pengsreu, 27, was found lying in a pool of blood outside his home in Svay Rieng City’s Koy Trabek commune in August 2013, with his iPhone and a diamond ring missing from his body.

His throat had been slit, he had sustained multiple knife and ax wounds to his head and torso, and his legs had patterns of burns indicating that he had been shocked with electricity.

His wife, Kou Chandany, initially told police that her husband had received a mysterious phone call the previous day and had disappeared after leaving the house to meet the unidentified caller.

However, police later became suspicious of her story and arrested her three days later for the murder.

Ms. Chandany confessed that she had killed her husband because she was jealous he was having an affair with another woman.
