SUV Runs Into Trouble at City Hall

Prampi Makara district governor Lim Sophea sustained minor injuries Thursday when the driver of his Lexus SUV accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake while exiting City Hall and accelerated into a gatepost, officials said.

Mr. Sophea had been at a City Hall meeting with Phnom Penh governor Pa Socheatavong and was riding in the backseat of the SUV as his chauffeur drove toward the compound’s exit on Monivong Boulevard when calamity struck.

“I don’t think this is a serious accident,” said Mr. Sophea, adding that district official Nguon Bunna had been in the backseat with him. “It was just a careless mistake.”

City Hall spokesman Long Dimanche said the officials were treated for minor injuries at Calmette Hospital. “They were bandaged…and sent home,” he said.
