Suspects Questioned Over Rape of Girl, Age 9

Police in Kompong Cham province are questioning a 34-year-old man over claims that he raped a 9-year-old girl procured by her mother, officials said Tuesday.

Sam Heng, acting police chief of Kompong Cham City, said his officers arrested the alleged rapist, Sok Min, and the mother, 32-year-old Nov Sarn, on Sunday, after receiving a complaint from the girl’s grandmother.

“We are still investigating this case because the answers of the child did not match the result of the medical examination, and the suspect has not confessed,” Mr. Heng said.

Boeng Kuk commune police chief Tiem Tong Meng said Ms. Sarn picked her daughter up from the grandmother’s house on Sunday morning and brought her back in the evening.

When the grandmother noticed that the child was acting strangely upon her return, she contacted the commune police.

The girl told police that she had been raped, but a subsequent medical examination showed that she had not been sexually abused, Mr. Heng said, adding that police would forward the case to the Kompong Cham Provincial Court once their investigation was complete.
