Police are searching for a man they suspect murdered his wife on Monday night in Kandal province’s Sa’ang district, an official said Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the body of Chan Tha, 23, was found with a slit throat in the bathroom at her house, a bloody cleaver lying nearby, according to Uy Sok, Svay Ralum commune police chief.
He said police believe she was killed the previous night by her husband, Mao Meng, a 43-year-old high school teacher, who had fled the scene.
On Tuesday morning, a friend of the victim went to meet her as usual but entered the home on her own and found the body when Chan Tha did not answer the door, Mr. Sok said.
“I led my team there to check and I saw the victim in the bathroom with lots of blood on the floor and her throat cut,” Mr. Sok said.
On Monday evening, neighbors said they heard the couple arguing, according to the police chief.
“The man was jealous of other young men because they often hung out with his wife and she returned home late at night.”
