Suspect Arrested in Shooting of South Korean: Embassy

Military police have arrested a Cambodian suspect in the fatal shooting of a South Korean man in Kandal province last week, according to an official at the South Korean Embassy.

Na Hongkyu, the embassy’s law enforcement liaison, said on Sunday that he was informed of the arrest near Phnom Penh’s Central Market on Saturday night.

“The suspect was arrested,” he said. “The military police informed me.”

Mr. Na said he did not know anything about who the suspect was and identified the victim only as Cho.

Last week, he said Cho was a mobile phone importer and distributor and speculated that he was killed “because of business.”

National Military Police spokesman Eng Hy said on Sunday that he had not received any report of an arrest in the case and that officers were “still investigating.”

Police say the victim was shot three times, including once in the head, at a rest stop in Kandal and that locals saw the gunman flee in an orange car that was later found abandoned in neighboring Takeo province.
