Students Vow To Rally for Int’l Tribunal

The Students’ Movement for Democracy said Thursday that it would hold a demonstration on an unspecified date to appeal to the world to establish an international court to bring Khmer Rouge leaders to justice.

“If their crimes against humanity are an impunity, it would not be only unfair for those who died but also encourage the current criminals to continue assassinating innocent Cambodian people without sympathy,” Saro Sivutha, leader of the student group, said in a statement.

“We strongly believe that UN as well as US will save Cambodian people‘s lives and bring justice for this country,” he said.

United Nations legal experts’ recommendations for setting up a possible tribunal for Khmer Rouge crimes against humanity are due to be submitted this month.
