Strikers Say Employer Purposely Not Providing Pay Slip

About 700 garment workers staged a protest yesterday in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district, accusing their employer of deliberately not paying them wages for overtime work, a union representative and worker said.

Chrin Noeun, a union representative at the Wai Xin garment factory in Chak Angre Loeu commune, said workers want the company to provide them with pay slips in advance of receiving their salary so they can check if overtime is paid correctly. In July, Wai Xin said it would provide workers with advanced pay slips. But workers are still waiting.

Tuoch Kanika, an administrator at Wai Xin, said the company had delayed printing advanced pay slips due to a “system error.” “Next month, we will give [pay slips] three days before they get their salary,” she said.
