The Kompong Thom Provincial Court on Sunday charged a 16-year-old student with the rape of a 5-year-old girl on Friday afternoon in Sandan district, police said.
The teenager was arrested on Friday following a complaint filed by the girl’s father, who told police that he had allowed his daughter to go out on an excursion with the suspect, riding on the back of his bicycle.
“The suspect stopped the bicycle and persuaded the victim to walk around 30 meters into the forest, then raped her,” said Sandan district police chief Ou Molin.
After the attack, the girl began to cry, and villagers ran into the forest and apprehended the suspect, then reported the rape to Chhoeuteal commune police.
Mr. Molin said that the suspect had confessed to the crime and is now jailed at the provincial prison in advance of trial, while the girl is undergoing treatment at the provincial hospital.
