Singers Killed as Truck Carrying Band Crashes

Two singers and their driver died after their vehicle was hit by a large truck following a show in Kompong Cham province Monday morning, a police official said.

The singers, who were identified only as Yann, 25, and Srey Hin, 28, died instantly along with driver Sun Dina, 27, when their truck collided with a 30-ton truck on National Road 71 in Chamkar Loeu district at about 1:45 a.m., according to provincial traffic police chief Long Mengse.

Nine other passengers, seven with serious injuries, remained in Kompong Cham provincial hospital Monday afternoon, he said.

The accident happened when the 30-ton truck swayed into the wrong lane at high speed in Bos Khnor commune, causing it to strike the side of the 1.5-ton truck carrying the musicians.

“Now, the condition of those injured is stable,” said Mr. Mengse.

“Authorities always visit [local villages] to educate people about traffic accidents and conduct alcohol breath tests and speed inspections once a week.”
