Singer Appears in Court Over Child Prostitution

A singer for TV production company Rey Meas was tried at Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Thursday on charges of procuring child prostitution, with aggravating circumstances.

Ou Reaksmey, 36, is accused of bringing a 14-year-old girl to have sex with a Cambodian-American man. Ms. Reaksmey was arrested at her home in Pur Senchey district’s Choam Chao commune in January after the child’s mother filed a complaint with police.

“Ms. Reaksmey is accused of sending a girl to have sex over three days with an old man, who is bald and who is a Cambodian-American,” said the child’s lawyer, Sam Sokong.

In a separate case, the municipal court convicted three women of procuring child prostitution and sentenced them each to five years in jail.

Chan Sreyleak, 25; Soeun Sreypov, 24, and Him Haysiek, 18, were brokers who found clients to sleep with young teenagers who ranged in age from 14 to 16 years.

The three defendants were each ordered to pay 2 million riel, or about $500, in compensation to the victims, according to their lawyer, Chea Nara.

The three were initially arrested in December at their house after the aunt of one victim and mother of another filed a complaint to the police.
