Sihanoukville Police Raid Home Of Wanted Russian

Police in Sihanoukville on Tuesday raided the rented house of a Russian businessman who is wanted by local authorities for ordering a violent attack at the Queenco casino in February, but came up empty- handed, an official said.

Deputy provincial police chief Mam Kamal said officers raided the home of Oleg Tikhanov, 45, in Bei commune to collect evidence.

“We knew Oleg Tikhanov had rented this house to keep his equipment,” Mr. Kamal said.

Mr. Tikhanov—who is also on Interpol’s most wanted list for charges in Russia of possessing weapons and explosives—runs the Oceania company, which operates a hotel, bar and kindergarten in Sihanoukville.

Police suspect that he ordered his employees to attack another group of Eastern European men on February 13 at the Queenco.

He has since been charged with intentional violence, Mr. Kamal said.

Deputy provincial police chief Kol Phally said no evidence related to the case was found in the raid, however.

“The suspect has escaped and we are looking to arrest him,” he said.
