Seven Arrested, Two Injured in Wedding Fight

Seven men were arrested and two others injured Friday night following a fight that broke out at a wedding in Kandal province’s Khsach Kandal district, according to local police.

The arrested men—friends and relatives of the groom—faced off in a drunken brawl with another group of men from the bride’s village, where the wedding was being held, said Un Yong, district judiciary police chief.

“Two gangs threw plates, glasses and chairs at each other in an area where guests were dancing,” said Mr. Yong.

Two men who tried to break up the fight sustained injuries to their heads and chests, he said, adding that they have already been treated in hospital and returned home.

Soon after the fight began, police arrived but were only able to arrest men from the groom’s party, who had traveled about 18 km from Lvea Em district.

“The other gang ran away because they live in the same village as the bride,” Mr. Yong explained, adding that police had not confirmed the names of the detained men.

The seven suspects were charged in court with intentional violence on Saturday and are now being held in pretrial detention.
