Scam message sent to Cambodian PM ‘not necessarily’ from Taiwan: CIB

The Criminal Investigation Bureau said Tuesday that a scam message allegedly sent to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen from a Taiwanese IP address was “not necessarily” from Taiwan.

According to the Cambodia China Times, a Telegram account using a photo of a well-known Cambodian businessman messaged Hun Sen in English Sunday night asking the prime minister to remit money into an unfamiliar bank account.

After directing officials to investigate the matter, Hun Sen was told that although the message was sent from a Laos-based phone number, the Telegram account was actually controlled by a user in Taiwan, the report said.
