Rugby Tournament Set for Weekend

The second annual Angkor 10’s Rugby tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the stadium in Siem Reap.

The tournament is organized by the Les Piliers D’Angkor rugby organization, according to Charles Bets, one of the organizers of the tournament.

The 10-to-a-side tournament will feature two Cambodian teams made up of Cambodians and expatriates, as well as teams from Hong Kong, England, Australia and China. All the teams are privately sponsored.

Group matches will take place Saturday, and semifinal and final matches will be held the following day. In addition to the club matches, a Cambodian high school all-star team will face off against a Thai high school team.

Les Piliers D’Angkor is comprised of Cambodian and expatriate rugby enthusiasts. Besides playing locally, the organization supports 11 Cambodian high school teams, sponsors two passports for adult Cambodian rugby players to play with expatriate teams abroad, and hopes to promote rugby as a national sport, Bets said.
