Robbery Leaves Two Women, Child Injured

Two women were seriously injured and a child suffered minor injuries during a violent robbery early Sunday morning in Phnom Penh’s Chamkar Mon district, police said.

Tep Vuthy, deputy police chief in Tonle Bassac commune, said that Sok Chanty, 45, and her daughter, Ly Chansrey Mom, 27, were beaten unconscious during the attack and Ms. Sok’s granddaughter, Keath Chanrasmey, 3, was also wounded during the 2 a.m. break-in.

“[Ms. Mom] suffered a swollen left eye and an injured left cheek, her daughter’s head hit the floor and the grandmother’s jaw was injured and she has internal cranial bleeding,” Mr. Vuthy said.

The victims were unable to tell police how many assailants had been involved, or what they looked like, but stated that they were beaten and cut with a knife.

“Ms. Mom told us that before she went to sleep, she had locked the house properly,” Mr. Vuthy said, adding that an iPad, an unspecified amount of gold and 600,000 riel (about $147) had been stolen from the house.

He added that the victims were receiving treatment at three separate hospitals in Phnom Penh.
