Rice Campaign Promotion Video Hits 5,000 Viewers on YouTube

Khmer Mekong Films’ video promoting The Cambodia Daily Rice Crisis Campaign hit the 5,000 visitors mark on the popular video sharing Web site YouTube this week and is among the company’s increasingly popular online Khmer videos, executive director Matthew Robinson said Tuesday.

In the short clip, the cast of KMF’s upcoming feature film “Heart Talk,” a Khmer thriller with rising movie star Savay Sakana in the lead, appeal to the public to support the campaign and help alleviate the rice crisis in Cambodia.

The video, placed online in September, is one of the top 5 most popular videos among the 95 KMF videos on YouTube and currently averages more than 100 hits per day, Robinson said.

“It is becoming more and more popular,” he said, adding that viewers of the clip were mostly from the US, Canada, Korea and Australia.

Robinson said the cast of “Heart Talk” learned about The Cambodia Daily Rice Crisis Campaign during the shooting of the movie and spontaneously decided to record the video on an off day.

“We saw it and we thought it was a good idea,” Robinson said about the campaign.

He said that all of the company’s online videos, such as promos and scenes from movies and TV-shows, were rapidly increasing in popularity, and he added that the KMF YouTube site was averaging 3,000 hits per day and would soon hit reach a total of half a million visitors.

“I am frankly amazed and delighted we are reaching 500,000 hits,” he said. “It demonstrates there is an appetite out there for well-made Khmer language media,” he added.

A reason for the popularity of the videos is that KMF uses the voices of the actors recorded during filming, instead of overdubbing actors’ voices afterward like most Cambodian film and TV-productions do, Robinson said.

“It is like a breath of fresh air for the public in Cambodia and abroad,” he said.
