Rescuing smuggled Cambodians would be difficult, say police

Vietnamese police believe thousands of Vietnamese could have been smuggled to Cambodia to be exploited and that rescuing them would be difficult.

Colonel Khong Ngoc Oanh, head of Human Trafficking Prevention Section under the Ministry of Public Security, said most of the victims were promised easy jobs with high pay, only to be taken to casinos and other production facilities, where they virtually worked like prisoners.

According to a Vn Express report, he said most of the victims were from poor areas and were unable to escape from their clutches as they did not have money or knowledge of the law.
