RCAF Soldier Arrested for Motorcycle Theft, Drugs

A member of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ elite Brigade 911 paratrooper unit was arrested Wednesday evening for allegedly stealing a motorbike in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district earlier this week, police said on Thursday.

Suon Chamnab, 26, was arrested at about 5 p.m. after the motorbike’s owner informed police that he saw his vehicle parked at a house in Toek Thla commune’s Trabaing Chhouk village, according to commune police chief Sok Sophal.

Mr. Sophal said police then staked out the house, and when Mr. Chamnab exited and approached the motorbike, they arrested him.

“He admitted that he stole the bike and [said] that he is a member of the 911 paratrooper unit,” Mr. Sophal said.

During the arrest, police also found a small amount of crystal methamphetamine in the suspect’s possession, Mr. Sophal said.

Deputy district police chief Kuok Sokhour said Mr. Chamnab currently is being held at Sen Sok district police headquarters for questioning.
