Rainsy to Join S-21 Ceremony

The Sam Rainsy Party has invited the Cambodian people to join a Buddhist religious ceremony to honor the more than 1 million victims of the genocidal Pol Pot regime, which devastated the country from 1975 to 1979.

The event will take place Wednesday from 8 am to 11 am at the Tuol Sleng Museum. Wednesday is the 27th anniversary of the day the Khmer Rouge arrived in Phnom Penh. Party officials say the ceremony will not only pay respect to the victims of the Khmer Rouge, but reaffirm a commitment to an internationally recognized tribunal to prosecute the surviving leaders of the Khmer Rouge regime.

Those at the gathering will request that the government guarantee an independent, impartial and objective tribunal, one that lives up the standards set forth by the UN.
