o’reang-ou district, kompong cham province – Outspoken dissident Sam Rainsy lashed out at Hun Sen on Tuesday, saying the voters are as disgusted with the second prime minister as they are with feces.
“Hun Sen packed his bags and abandoned you all because the Cambodian people hate him like feces,” Sam Rainsy told about 300 supporters in O’Reang-ou district.
Sam Rainsy said Hun Sen is not standing as a candidate in Kompong Cham—the second prime minister’s birthplace—because the voters have lost faith in him.
“He destroyed Kompong Cham, he fled Kompong Cham and now he is destroying Kandal province,” Sam Rainsy said, lacing his speech with references to the destruction of forests, corruption and injustice.
Hun Sen, whose brother Hun Neng is the governor of Kompong Cham, represents the province in parliament, but has changed his district for the forthcoming election to Kandal province, where he now lives.
Sam Rainsy, who is standing as a candidate in Kompong Cham, predicted Hun Sen would leave the country after losing at the polls.
“So the votes will overthrow the Vietnamese puppet party,” Sam Rainsy said, referring to the CPP.
Speaking at the inauguration of a party office in Tbong Khmum district, Sam Rainsy told supporters that analysts are saying there are only two main rivals for the upcoming polls—the CPP and the Sam Rainsy Party.
Later Tuesday, at about 3:20 pm, Sam Rainsy registered as a voter in Kompong Cham town, but only after meeting resistance.
The registration official said the center had closed because more than 650 people had registered over the last three days. He said that was enough for the center, and asked Sam Rainsy to register at another center on Wednesday.
After negotiating for about 15 minutes with the provincial election commission, the center was re-opened and Sam Rainsy and his bodyguards were allowed to register.
Deposed first prime minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh, who represents the capital for Funcinpec, also is running in Kompong Cham. He registered Monday.
