Around 150 houses were destroyed and one villager seriously injured when rainstorms pounded O’Chrou and Preah Netr Preah districts in Banteay Meanchey province, said First Governor Nheik Kim Chhun.
In Preah Netr Preah district, located 80 km from Banteay Meanchey town, some 50 houses were destroyed by rainstorms during the Khmer New Year holiday, said provincial police Chief Sok Sareth.
In O’Chrou district, 74 houses were destroyed by the rains, while the roofs of another 43 houses and three schools were destroyed by strong winds, Nheik Kim Chhun said.
O’Chrou district Governor Sar Chamrung confirmed that destruction in Poipet and Kutta Sout communes, indicating that up to 100 houses were destroyed. Villagers in Poipet spoke of “cruel winds.”
Sar Chamrung said that he is requesting emergency assistance from the provincial Red Cross.
