RAC to Fly Bangkok-SR

Royal Air Cambodge has launched direct charter flights between Siem Reap and Bangkok, the carrier announced Saturday.

The round-trip flights, on ATR-72 planes, are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday afternoons. RAC officials could not be reached Sunday, and prices were unavailable.

The airline is the second to fly the route, following Thailand’s Bangkok Airways, which began flights between Bangkok and Siem Reap last year.

Tourism Ministry Director-General So Mara said Sunday his ministry welcomed the carrier’s decision, saying that “we need more flights and more people to come into the country.”

But the decision to open the route has not been without problems. Bangkok Airways has said it wants to increase its flights to Siem Reap, but the Tourism Ministry said the times would encourage day trips to the temples rather than overnight visits.
