Publisher Seeks Thai Medical Aid

The publisher of Koh Santepheap (Island of Peace) newspaper, who was shot twice in the chest last week, has gone to Thailand for further medical checks, his daughter said Thursday.

Thong Uy Pang was shot at close range last Tuesday. The publisher was treated at Calmette Hospital for “a couple of days” after the attack, hospital Director Heng Taikry said Thursday.

Heng Taikry said Thong Uy Pang had made a satisfactory recovery from his injuries and had been sent home a few days ago. His daughter, who did not want to give her name, said her father’s condition had improved.

“He was feeling better. But to be more confident he decided to go to Thailand for further medical treatment,” she said Thursday.

Police say they are still investigating. “We don’t have a suspect at the moment,” said Ek Krith, Phnom Penh judicial police chief.
