Provisional Charges for Man Who Raped Maid, 14

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday provisionally charged the owner of a printing company who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl who had been working in his home as a maid.

The suspect, Buth Chanva, 32, was arrested on Saturday at his home in Chbar Ampov district’s Prek Pra commune following a complaint made by the girl’s mother.

Mao Soeut, deputy district police chief, said Mr. Chanva was questioned on Monday by deputy prosecutor Keo Sokunthea and provisionally charged with the rape of a minor.

“The court did not finish the procedure yet, so tomorrow we will send him back to the court again,” he said. Em Saravuth, district police chief, said the suspect denied raping the victim.

“Even though the official results of the medical examination have not been issued yet, I believe she was raped because the doctor told me that the victim had injuries on her genitals,” he said.
