A group of Thai companies will brave the bone-jarring road to Kompong Cham today to set up a first-of-its-kind product exhibition in the provincial capital, officials said.
Eighty-four booths from 60 companies will display consumer goods such as toothbrushes, mattresses, food and beverages “straight from the factory,” said Boonyarith Kalayanamit, commercial attache for the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh.
“The merchandise is from the manufacturers themselves,” so the prices will be lower than usual, he said.
The trip follows a March exhibition in Phnom Penh where 30,000 people per day passed by display booths, but the provincial exhibition will be a success if 10,000 people per day come, Boonyarith said.
Live music and a big-screen movie will be the evening entertainment at the three-day event, to be held at the town’s main football arena, Boonyarith said.
While the Thais look for buyers in the provinces, Chinese goods will be on display in Phnom Penh, where a three-day exhibition of agricultural and consumer products made in Guangdong, China, begins today.
About 30 companies will display goods, looking for prospective distributors in Cambodia. Forty percent of all China’s exports come from the southern province, said Khek Ravy, secretary of state for the Ministry of Commerce.
“It’s a powerful province,” he said. “They feel that Cambodia could be…conducive for trade.”
Consumer, agricultural, and agro-industrial products will be on display at the National Culture Exhibition Center, near Hun Sen Park, starting at 10 am. Some companies may also be looking for joint-venture partners in agro-industry, Khek Ravy said.
The China Guangdong Commodities Fair is the second in a string of exhibitions that will run this month and in December. About 35 Vietnamese companies left town earlier this week after an exhibition of their own.
