Prime Minister’s Sister Says She Will Step Down Monday

Hun Sinath, the sister of Prime Minister Hun Sen and an undersecretary of state at the Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, said Sunday that she would resign from her government position Monday.

In a copy of her resignation letter, dated Monday and addressed to Mr. Hun Sen, she cites health problems for her decision to relinquish her post.

“I have a health problem that necessitates daily treatment, so I request to step down from the position of undersecretary [of] state at the Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection to receive treatment,” says the letter, which Ms. Sinath sent to a reporter via Facebook.

However, in a post to her Facebook page on Thursday, Ms. Sinath gave another reason for wanting to leave her position, expressing her frustration with the ministry for its failure to investigate CPP Senator Ly Yong Phat’s claim to disputed land in Kompong Speu province.

“I cannot stay in the ministry and find justice for the people…so I would like to resign now to become a normal citizen,” she wrote.
