Preah Vihear Photograph Wins Cambodian Trip to Thailand

For two hours a day for the past two months, Kao Punleu, 21, has logged on to Facebook and asked friends to “like” his photo of Preah Vihear temple.

The lobbying paid off on Saturday when Mr. Punleu, whose photo received the most “likes” on Cambodian travel agent 2toGo’s Facebook page, received a new Nikon camera and a three-day trip to Bangkok.

At the time, his photo had 1,046 “likes,” far surpassing the other 25 contestants.

Promotion of the photo, and subsequently of 2toGo, was an integral part of the competition, said Sam Chingchhay, an assistant to the product supervisor for the company.

“Contestants have to try their best to promote the photo,” Mr. Chingchhay said. “His photo also was a good one compared with the others.”

The winning photo will be the cover photo for 2toGo’s Facebook page for a week.

Mr. Punleu snapped the picture of a dusty courtyard in the temple during a family trip in March 2013, before he learned about the competition. He entered the contest in hopes of winning the grand prize and taking his mother to Thailand.

“My family has never gone abroad. They live in a rural area,” he said. “I wanted to take a vacation with my family.”
