Police Seek Killers of Tuol Kok Fruit Vendor

Phnom Penh police Sunday were searching for three men who are suspected of decapitating a 22-year-old Vietnamese fruit vendor in his bathroom.

The three men, Vietnamese nationals whom police would not identify Sunday, were probably still in Phnom Penh, although police had alerted border officials just in case, Tuol Kok District Police Chief Kim Horn said.

They are wanted for questioning in the death of Kong Tay, 22, also a Vietnamese national, whose body was found in the bathroom of his Tuol Kok home Saturday, Kim Horn said.

A fourth roommate, a woman, awoke from a nap around 2 pm and found the home very quiet. She went downstairs to investigate, and tried to get into the locked bathroom. The woman peeked through a crack in the door and saw Kong Tay’s leg, Kim Horn said.

Another roommate helped the woman find a key, and they opened the door, finding Kong Tay’s body and head, Kim Horn said. Police later found a razor-sharp fruit knife covered in blood nearby, Kim Horn said.

The five Vietnamese nationals had recently rented the house, Kim Horn said. Authorities were not exactly sure why the three men attacked and killed Kong Tay, but it was likely a business dispute, Kim Horn said.

No one was in custody early Sunday afternoon, police said.
