Police Investigating Disappearance of TV3 Host

Phnom Penh police have opened an official investigation into the disappearance of well-known TV3 presenter Suon Peakdey, 27, also known as VJ Ano, even though no complaint has been filed by her family, according to police.

Several publications reported that about three weeks ago Suon Peakdey was forced into a car, had her hair shaved and was cut more than 80 times on her face and body in an attack perpetrated by a jealous wife of a high-level government official.

Municipal police chief Touch Naruth said Sunday by telephone that because of the media attention given to the case, his police are looking into it.

“In my capacity as municipal police chief, I have ordered my colleagues to investigate,” he said.

Touch Naruth said that there still has been no complaint filed by the family or witnesses regarding Suon Peakdey’s disappearance.

“Municipal police have only heard [about Suon Peakdey’s disappearance] from the newspapers,” he said.

TV3 Director-General Kham Poun Keomony said Sunday he was not sure of Suon Pheakdey’s whereabouts but doubted her disappearance was the result of foul play.

“Maybe she went on holiday,” he said, adding that Suon Peakdey is not an employee of TV3, but an independent performer.
