Police Identify Suspect in Ranariddh Crash

The Kompong Cham provincial police have identified the person they believe was driving the truck that plowed into the side of Prince Norodom Ranariddh’s SUV on Saturday, injuring him and severely injuring his wife, an official said Monday.

“We have identified the suspect and now we are working through our procedures to arrest him,” provincial traffic police chief Long Meng Se said.

“We cannot tell you his identity because the case is under the process of investigation.”

Nhep Bun Chin, the spokesman for the Funcinpec party, to which Prince Ranariddh returned as president earlier this year, on Sunday claimed the weekend car accident was an intentional act of “terrorism” that left Ouk Phalla, the prince’s second wife, with severe head injuries.

Mr. Bun Chin said Monday that Ms. Phalla is now recovering at a Bangkok hospital.

“She was admitted to hospital yesterday and has been in surgery to clean up the blood clots in her brain, and it seems she has recovered and had success in surgery,” he said. “Her health is getting better.”
