Two people suspected of dousing a woman with acid as she fed her toddler daughter at Tonlab market in Takeo province’s Kiri Vong district on Wednesday are on the run, according to police.
Market vendor Muong Sreymom, 31, was left with burns to 44 percent of her body, while her 2-year-old suffered minor injuries to her face and one arm.
Deng Leakhena, 22, a rival seller, is accused of dousing the victim in acid, while her 28-year-old brother Deng Meas simultaneously attacked Ms. Sreymom’s husband, following a fight between the two families on Monday over customers.
Preah Bat Chonchum commune police chief En Vuth said police were gathering more information from witnesses about the incident while hunting for the siblings.
“So far, both suspects are on the run and our police are searching for their whereabouts,” he said.
Erin Bourgois, project manager at the Cambodian Acid Survivors Charity, said Ms. Sreymom was in stable condition at a Phnom Penh hospital and was being monitored by medical staff.
