Police Hunt Drug Dealer Suspected of Stabbing Rival

Police are searching for a known drug dealer suspected of stabbing a rival outlaw to death during a fight in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district on Tuesday night, an official said on Wednesday.

Phat Phi, 31, allegedly stabbed Ros Dimanche, 27, once in the back at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday near the Monivong Bridge in Chbar Ampov II commune, according to commune police chief Se Pora.

He said police did not know what sparked the fight, but noted that the men were longtime rivals, both wanted by authorities on suspicion of drug dealing.

Ros Dimanche, he added, was released from prison about a year ago, having served a sentence for theft.

“The two gangsters ran into each other by chance in a slum area near the riverside and they started to argue. Then the suspect took a vegetable knife from his waistband and stabbed the victim in the back, on the top right side,” Mr. Pora said, adding that the victim was taken to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, where he died.
