Police Chiefs to Receive Training in China

The police chiefs of Phnom Penh’s 12 districts and a number of provinces traveled to China yesterday to receive training in combating drug smuggling, said Meas Vyrith, secretary general of the National Authority of Combating Drugs.

A number of military police will also attend, taking to 30 the total number of Cambodian attendees. Lieutenant General Vyrith said the training is the continuation of cooperation between Cambodian forces and China’s National Narcotic Control Commission following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries in 2008.

“It is the sixth time that our police and military policemen have gone to training in Kunming City,” Lt. Gen. Vyrith said.

“A total of 180 police officers have gone since we signed an MoU with the National Narcotic Control Commission of the Ministry of Public Security of China in 2008.”

Lt. Gen. Vyrith said the training will last for three weeks, from August 14 to September 5.
