Siem Reap police say they have arrested a man who posed as a member of the royal family and wore the uniform of a National Police one-star general in order to rob teen-age girls of their virginity.
Vorn Touch, 28, from Kompong Speu province was arrested last Wednesday in Siem Reap province after grandparents of a 16-year-old girl complained that he had abducted the girl and brought her to Pursat province to have sex with him, Lon Deka, chief of Siem Reap minor crime police bureau, said Tuesday.
Lon Deka said villagers in Pursat reported that Vorn Touch often boasted of masquerading as a member of the royal family and wearing a police official’s uniform in order to attract young village girls in Takeo, Kompong Speu, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Phnom Penh, Prey Veng and Siem Reap.
“Dreaming of becoming princesses, at least two teen-age girls [in Siem Reap] fell in love with him,” said Lon Deka.
Siem Reap Court Judge Tan Senarong said Tuesday that Vorn Touch has been charged with abduction. According to police, the suspect was finally nabbed after he had approached the grandparents of a 16-year-old girl last month with a proposal of marriage. However, a day later, on the pretext of taking the girl for a drive around Siem Reap town, he abducted the girl and drove her to a small house in Phnom Kravanh district of Pursat province, police said.
The girl was later found by Pursat police who during questioning found that Vorn Touch had slept with her, Phing Chandareth, a Siem Reap provincial police officer, said Tuesday.
Vorn Touch was arrested March 1 when summoned back to Siem Reap by the girl.
“He came on the invitation but we arrested him promptly when he arrived at the girl’s house,” said Phoeun Arun, Siem Reap district police chief.
Phoeun Arun explained why the man may have been so successful in duping the young women. “The uniform and his royal status buys a lot of respect in Cambodia.”
