The crackdown on illegal gambling during the World Cup continued Sunday with a raid of a Phnom Penh Internet cafe during which more than 10 people were arrested, officials said Monday.
“Now we are still questioning and looking through the documents and other proof in order to know whether we have to charge them or release them,” said Meas Chan Pisith, Phnom Penh Municipal Court deputy prosecutor.
Mr. Chan Pisith said that more than 10 people were arrested in the sting.
According to witnesses, Wat Phnom Net Cafe in Daun Penh district had been openly operating the illicit gambling ring since the World Cup began June 12.
Police have also made arrests related to illegal gambling in Kampot, Kompong Cham and Svay Rieng provinces since June 16.
