Police Arrest Suspected Meth Dealers in Two Cases

Undercover anti-drug police in Phnom Penh busted a crystal methamphetamine dealer on Wednesday in a sting that saw them net half a kilogram of “ice,” while in Tbong Khmum province police arrested two suspected drug smugglers with more than 100 grams of the same drug.

In the first case, officers arranged to meet the 35-year-old suspect, known locally as “Thanh,” at an empty house in Prek Pra commune at 4:30 p.m., where they exchanged $20,000 for 500 grams of ice, said Yen Panharith, bureau chief at the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug department.

“We spent three months trying to set up a deal to buy 2 kg of crystal methamphetamine but he kept delaying and reducing the amount, so we finally agreed a deal [worth] $20,000,” he said, adding that the suspect would be sent to court today.

Police in Tbong Khmum province’s Chumnoek commune stopped a car at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and caught two suspected smugglers carrying 118 grams of ice, according to provincial police chief Mao Pov, who said they would also be sent to court Friday.
