Police arrested a second suspect in a violent armed robbery at a gas station in Kompong Speu province on Thursday, a day after a first suspect was apprehended, police said.
Non Dara, Samraong Tong district deputy military police commander, said the second suspect—whom he refused to name because the investigation was ongoing—was arrested Thursday at about 9 a.m. in Kong Pisei district’s Pich Mony commune.
“We arrested him based on his phone number, which the first suspect often called him on,” he said. “We know his identity because we checked with the phone company.”
On Tuesday evening, three armed men robbed the Huy Sokleang gas station and Wing money transfer kiosk in Ralaing Kroeul commune, making off with more than $8,500 in cash, and two damlung of gold and other jewelry worth more than $3,000.
The attack left one of the owner’s teenage daughters with head injuries that required treatment at a local clinic, but Mr. Dara said Thursday that she had been sent home.
Sam Sak, chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau, said both arrested men denied committing the crime.
“We need to do more questioning,” he said.
