Police Arrest 4 in Kompong Cham Lottery Crackdown

Four women were arrested for illegally selling lottery tickets in Kompong Cham province’s Koh Sotin district on Saturday after local residents complained to authorities, police said Sunday.

District police chief Ma Chenda said his officers cooperated with provincial police to make the arrests in three separate locations.

“We divided our forces to stand by at each target,” he said. “When we were tipped off by our undercover police officers, we started the operations at the same time.”

Mr. Chenda said police arrested Phork Norn, 62, and Khun Soth, 45, in Prek Tanong commune; Seng Chheng, 59, in Moha Khnhoung commune; and Chhun Natrim, 36, in Kompong Reap commune.

“We arrested the four people and seized some evidence, including money, lottery lists and other equipment,” he said.

Provincial police chief Pen Roth said police made the arrests just hours after receiving multiple complaints about the women.

“People reported to our police about the illegal gambling and complained that the local police ignored their [previous] requests” to take action, he said.
