PM Recovering After Surgery

Second Prime Minister Hun Sen is recovering from a Friday night operation to remove his appendix, and may not be released from the hospital until the end of this week, according to two senior advisers.

Prak Sokhonn said Sunday that the second prime minister’s condition was good, but he was still in Calmette Hospital where doctors removed his appendix Friday night.

“I don’t know exactly [when he will be released]. It will depend on how quickly he recovers,” Prak Sokhonn said, adding Hun Sen is expected to be healthy enough to cast his ballot in Sunday’s election.

Hun Sen had been keeping a low profile since the kickoff of the official campaign season, restricting his appearances primarily to Friday morning ceremonies. Hun Sen’s appointments for the beginning of this week have been canceled, advisers said.
